By removing the old asphalt and leaving a blank canvas for paving, cold planer milling creates an even, smooth surface. It is cheaper than removing sub-base and regrading the entirety of the project and can correct any errors on the asphalt including drainage issues, spidering and cracking in the course of asphalt. Fresh asphalt can then be laid down on top of a more level surface, giving customers the smoothest and cleanest end product possible. The depth of milling is all dependent on the integrity of the current asphalt and its sub base layers, determining the depth needed to be removed is key to the longevity of the new pavement. Through the milling procedure, the top asphalt layer is removed and the subgrade is made ready for fresh asphalt.
